DEATH AT NEW MARKET --Laura May, wife of Edwin H. Douglass, died at her home in New Market October 23, 1900. Mrs. Douglass was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Chenault, and was born in New Market December 11, 1870. She married Edwin H. Douglass April, 1889. to them were born two daughters, Ethel and Inez. She was a member of the Christian Church and died in full assurance of that rest that awaits those who love their Lord. She knew that she must go and spoke words of comfort to those she loved and asked them to sing, "God Be With you Till We Meet Again" She quietly went to sleep. Mr. Douglas desires to thank all who in any way assisted him in this the darkest hour of his life.

Again God in his infinite mercy has
seen fit to take from us another of life’s fairest jewels and robbed of another
home almost all that makes home the dearest place on earth. Laura M. Chenault was born in New
Market Dec. 11, 1870; was married to Edwin H. Douglass, of New Market, April 4, 1889. To this union was born two
children, Ethel Pearl and Inez C. She heard the blessed “Come up higher” and
departed this life Oct. 23, 1900, aged 29 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
She united with the Christian Church
Feb. 18, 1894, professing a beautiful faith in a blessed hereafter, leaving
husband, children and those she loved here as her snow white spirit was wafted
by angels through the pearly gates into the mysteries of the great beyond.
She without once having put off the
armor of God has fought a good fight. Though nearly all else has been
sacrificed she has kept the faith and strong in that faith she has descended to
the tomb. Having thus loved righteousness and abhorred iniquity none dare doubt
that when the saints shall ascend the throne God, even her God, will anoint her
with the oil of gladness. -s
